About Course
Most of what people were taught about snakes as children is wrong, and it was taught to them by people who loved them and believed it. This free course takes those beliefs one at a time, explains enough of how snakes actually work that the myths stop making sense on their own, takes apart the eight popular “rules” for spotting a venomous snake, and then shows you how to learn the handful of species where you live, properly, which is the only method that works.
It is written for two readers: the person who is a little nervous about the snake they saw last week, and the docent, rescuer, or group moderator who needs something reliable to hand to someone else. Every lesson stands alone. There is no exam.
By the end you will know the one rule that works every time, why snakes do what they do, why the shortcuts fail, how to get a trustworthy identification, what to do about a snake in the yard or the house, how to see more snakes or fewer, and what to do if someone is bitten.
