R-7.13: The Law and You

Updated

Laws about wildlife can be confusing, but they exist for good reasons, and ignoring them does not help you or the animals. This lesson cannot tell you the rules where you live, because they are different everywhere. What it can do is show you where the rules come from, so you and your adult partner can look them up. Local rules are the everyday ones: park legally, stay off private land without permission, follow the posted signs at parks. State laws are the main ones for herping in the United States. Your state has a wildlife agency, often called something like Wildlife and Fisheries, Fish and Game, or the Department of Natural Resources.

This lesson is part of Certified Junior Herpetologist. Enrollment is self-paced, with no deadline to finish (about 30 hours).
