Reptiles and amphibians are all around you. You may not see them every day, but you almost certainly walk past them every time you go outside. Many herps are masters of camouflage. Most of the rest blend in well enough. And their senses are sharp: they usually know you are coming long before you notice them. Since you are huge and might be dangerous, they slip under the leaves, into the water, or down a hole, and you never know they were there. It also helps them that most people walk through the world without looking. If you open your eyes, herps are almost always there.
