R-4.14: Amplexus

Updated

On rainy evenings in many places, you can hear frogs calling from every puddle, pond, and ditch. Sometimes it is one voice at a time. Sometimes it is a roar that drowns out everything else. Those are the males, each one announcing, "I have found a good spot. Come find me." Many species go quiet when people move in and change the land, but some adapt. Toads will happily call from almost anything people leave outside that holds a little water, and females are not always picky about nursery sites. That is why you look inside a bucket before you dump it out.
