Try to explain the difference between reptiles and amphibians in one sentence and you will run into trouble. These animals are so varied that almost every rule needs an "except" in the middle of it. People say amphibians have no teeth or claws, but most amphibians do have small teeth, turtles have beaks instead of teeth, and snakes have no feet, so no claws either. Still, there are some rules that mostly hold up. Both are ectotherms. Their bodies make so little heat of their own that they rely on the sun, the shade, and the ground to control their temperature.
