F-8.01: Look Up the Wildlife Laws Where You Live

Updated

Research activity, done with your adult partner. About 2 hours. Indoors. In Unit VII, the lesson The Law and You explained that the main rules about wild reptiles and amphibians come from your state's wildlife agency. Now find them. With your adult partner, go to your state wildlife agency's website and find the pages about reptiles and amphibians (try searching "reptiles," "amphibians," or "nongame wildlife"). Then try to sort what you find into: rules about where you can go and whose land it is; rules protecting certain species; rules about watching and photographing; rules about touching or catching; rules about collecting and keeping; rules about moving animals from place to place; and permits for scientists and teachers.

This lesson is part of Certified Junior Herpetologist. Enrollment is self-paced, with no deadline to finish (about 30 hours).
