R-7.07: Learning to Identify Herps

Updated

For some people, "snake" or "frog" is as specific as they ever want to get. You can do better than that. With more than 21,000 species of reptiles and amphibians in the world, you will never learn them all, and you do not need to. Start with where you live and work outward. The venomous species first, then the animals you see most often. The best method is simple: go outside with your field guide. Every time you find a herp (or a bird, or a bug), take a minute to learn its name and a little about how it lives.
