R-2.10: How Do Most Snakebites Happen?

Updated

A look at what the numbers actually say Before anything else, here is the one thing to remember from any talk about snakebite: The second thing is to pay attention outdoors. Seeing a snake before you step on it or reach next to it is what keeps you safe. You are the one in charge of where your hands and feet go. You will often hear people say, "Most snakebites happen when someone is trying to catch or kill the snake." I do not say that, and I am careful about my words. What I say instead is: "Trying to harm a snake increases your chance of being bitten." Those sound similar, but they are different kinds of statements.
