R-2.02: Snakebite Avoidance

Updated

Most snakes are harmless, and even venomous snakes do not think of people as food. In the United States, very few people die of snakebite, but a bite from a venomous snake can still cause serious injury and needs to be taken seriously. The good news is that the easiest way to avoid being bitten is also the best thing you can do for the snake: do not try to catch it, touch it, or kill it. Health experts say the same thing. The simple truth is that trying to harm or catch a snake raises your chance of being bitten, and leaving it alone drops that chance to zero. Snakes do not chase people.
