Anurans, better known as frogs and toads, are certainly an order of herps with plenty of fans. Comprising more than 8,000 recognized species, with more discovered each year, frogs exhibit an enormous variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and unique behaviors. They also live in a wide range of habitats. There are even frogs that live in deserts beneath the soil and only come out a few days a year to eat and mate! Frogs are tetrapods (four-legged animals) that range in size from 12.6” (32 cm, Goliath Frog) down to .3” (6.5 mm, Brazilian Flea Toad). They are all carnivores, and their diet typically consists of anything they can catch, subdue, and fit in their mouths.
