It preserves the context that makes an observation meaningful: when and where it happened, habitat, weather, animal behavior, associated species, questions raised by the encounter, and anything unusual you noticed. There is no single correct format. A notebook, digital document, spreadsheet, photo journal, audio log, or another accessible system is acceptable if it lets you preserve useful information and find it later. Learning objective: Develop the habit of recording context rather than relying on memory alone.
